Abitibi-TemiscamingueA land of wide-open spaces, the Abitibi-Témiscamingue region is the home of the Anishnabe. Seven of the nine communities of the Quebec Algonquins are located there. Whether close to the mining cities and forestry operations or very isolated, they continue to honour the ancestral bond that has always existed between the Algonquins and nature. Quebec Aboriginal
Referred to as “Indians” and then “American Indians” a little later on, today they are more accurately referred to as the “First Nations” for the indigenous or aboriginal peoples of Canada, “Inuit” for the Aboriginal people of Northern Canada and “Métis" for the people of mixed ancestry.
