An ideal area for encountering two different worlds: water and forest. A haven for whales, the St. Lawrence River and its string of islands beckon thousands of birds from its increasingly steep and uninhabited shores as the river flows toward the sea. In the beautiful hinterland, between waterfalls and rivers, the forest is a true animal kingdom. Between Essipit and Pakua Shipi, seven of the Innu communities have settled along the shore of this great river, while inland, more to the north, the two Innu and Naskapi communities of Matimekush and Kawawachikamach continue to live in the heart of the taiga and tundra
