Saguenay, Lac-Saint-Jean
Marvelling at its resources, Jacques Cartier called this area a kingdom. For two centuries, it flourished as a business centre for the fur trade between Europeans and Amerindians. Abundant lakes and rivers facilitated travel by nomadic Innu and encouraged the creation of the many villages that contribute to the charm of this happy land. Be sure to visit the unique community of Mashteuiatsh, located on the furthest point of land jutting into the lake, Pekuakami, the Montagnais name for Lake Saint-John.
