Le village de la Première Nation Timiskaming
Saugeeng is an Algonquin word meaning "head of the lake." The Anish-nabeg Algonquins had been living at the head of Lake Timiskaming for centuries before the arrival of the Europeans. Their way of life depended on the proximity of the water, both for food and trade. Archaeologists have confirmed a continental trade system spanning North America. This trade was made possible by water routes and portages. The Hurons regularly traded their corn to Algonquin hunters in exchange for meat and furs. The Timiskaming Anish-nabeg will recreate an Indian village to revive the history of this region.
